City of Fond du Lac seeks Boards & Commissions Members

City residents interested in the Fond du Lac community, get involved! The City is accepting volunteer applications to fill positions on various City Boards and Commissions.

Boards and Commissions advise the City of Fond du Lac on issues important to the municipality. Most positions do not require extensive expertise, just a willingness to serve.

Applicants should be city residents and applications are available at the City Clerk’s Office, 160 S Macy Street or may be found on the city’s Web site at www.fdl.wi.gov on the City Council page along with more detailed information about each Board and Commission. The following are current Boards and Commissions openings:

 Advisory Park Board has two vacancies with the term to expire April 30, 2022. The member must have sincere interest in the operation and uses of the park system and commitment to the importance and value of park services. The ability to work well with others, respect for varied opinions and points of view, open-mindedness, objectivity and commitment to expressing ideas regarding the park and recreational needs of the entire community. Meetings are held monthly in the City-County Government Center on the 4th Monday of each month at 5:30pm.

Board of Appeals has two vacancies with the term to expire April 30, 2022. The member will consider requests for exceptions or variances to the zoning ordinance in special cases where property circumstances do not allow complete compliance with city regulations. The ability to discern actual bona fide hardships or difficulties created by strict application of the zoning ordinance and apply suitable remedies, while maintain the integrity of the community’s zoning map and protecting the public welfare and safety. This commission meets the 1st Monday of each month in the City-County Government Center at 3:00pm.

Historic Preservation Commission has two vacancies with the term to expire April 30, 2022. Members must have competence and knowledge in the historical, architectural and cultural traditions of the community. To serve in an advisory capacity to City Council in the research, inspection and investigation of sites, buildings, structures, or other objects in the City the board has reason to believe are potential landmarks. This board meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month in the City-County Government Center at 6:00pm.

Redevelopment Authority Board has one vacancy with the term to expire on April 30, 2022. The member must advise the City Council, City Manager and Director of Redevelopment on all aspects pf public programs and projects to improve the appearance, livability, and economic viability of residential and commercial areas by elimination and prevention of the development or spread of deterioration and blight.. This board meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the City-County Government Center at 7:30am.

City Plan Commission has one vacancy with the term to expire on April 30, 2022. The task of the member is to update the master plan for the physical development of the community; recommend programs for public improvement; advise the City Council on petitions for rezoning of land, annexations, official map amendments, street vacations and plats; approve certified surveys and Special Use Permits; advise Council on land transactions and other public matters. The member must demonstrate interest in serving the long-range interest of the community unbound by narrow interests and political expediency. This board meets monthly on the Monday following the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the City-County Government Center at 5:30pm.
