Marian University Earns 10-Year Reaffirmation of Accreditation from Higher Learning Commission

University earns the Higher Learning Commission’s highest accreditation term, affirming excellence in academic quality, governance, and student success.

Marian University is proud to announce that it has received reaffirmation of accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) for the next 10 years, the maximum accreditation term awarded by the commission. The action recognizes Marian University’s continued commitment to academic excellence, institutional effectiveness, and student success.

Accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission is one of the most important indicators of institutional quality in higher education. The rigorous review process evaluates every aspect of a university, including its mission, governance, financial stewardship, academic programs, assessment of student learning, strategic planning, and commitment to continuous improvement.

“This reaffirmation is a tremendous achievement and a reflection of the extraordinary dedication of our faculty, staff, administrators, trustees, students, and alumni,” Aaron Sadoff, President of Marian University, said. “Receiving the maximum 10-year reaffirmation demonstrates that Marian University remains steadfast in its mission to provide a transformative, values-based education while continually evolving to meet the needs of today’s learners and tomorrow’s workforce.”

The reaffirmation follows a comprehensive evaluation conducted by peer reviewers representing the Higher Learning Commission. The review included an extensive self-study, analysis of institutional performance and student outcomes, and an on-site comprehensive evaluation. The review team found Marian University met the commission’s criteria for accreditation and recommended reaffirmation without requiring additional monitoring or interim reporting.

The Higher Learning Commission has continuously accredited Marian University since 1960. Accreditation ensures that Marian students earn degrees from an institution that meets nationally recognized standards of quality and integrity, while maintaining eligibility for federal financial aid and supporting the transferability and recognition of academic credits and degrees.

“This accomplishment belongs to our entire university community,” Sadoff, continued. “Every member of the Marian family contributes to creating an educational experience grounded in academic excellence, Agnesian values, and a genuine commitment to helping students thrive. We are grateful for the confidence the Higher Learning Commission has placed in our institution.”

The reaffirmation comes as Marian University continues to expand academic offerings, strengthen partnerships with employers and community organizations, increase access through innovative and affordable programs, and invest in student success initiatives that prepare graduates to lead lives of purpose and service.

The Higher Learning Commission is one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States and accredits degree-granting postsecondary educational institutions throughout the country. Reaffirmation of accreditation generally occurs on a 10-year cycle following a comprehensive institutional review.
