Marian University baseball (13-22, 7-15 NACC) opened its final week of NACC play with a 15-0 win in eight innings followed by a 6-5 defeat against Wisconsin Lutheran.
GAME 1
- Two big innings proved to be the difference in the opener as Marian scored eight runs in the sixth and six in the eighth.
- A triple from sophomore Ayden Kanaman in the fifth inning opened the scoring for the game.
- Three different Sabres drove in at least a run with a single in the sixth with sophomore Carter Scott driving in two.
- Freshman Connor Schroeder closed the rally with a double that plated two runs.
- The eight-run sixth put Marian ahead 9-0.
- Marian once again passed the bat in the eighth with four Sabres driving in a run.
GAME 2
- The Sabres opened the scoring for game two when junior Marc Jones drove in a pair of runs with a single in the third.
- Wisconsin Lutheran then scored five unanswered runs to lead 5-2 after five innings.
- A double from junior Lucas Lemons brought Marian to within two in the sixth, but the Warriors responded in the bottom half to lead 6-3.
- Marian took advantage of a pair of errors in the eighth to cut the deficit down to 6-5 but this was as close as the Sabres managed.
GAME 1
- Marian finished with an 18-5 edge in hits.
- The Sabres committed just one error and benefited from two Warrior miscues.
- Marian had three sacrifice bunts and stole six bases.
- This was the second shutout of the season for Marian, also a complete-game shutout from freshman Ian Dohms.
GAME 2
- Marian was held to four hits and allowed 12 hits in the defeat.
- Just like game one, Marian had one error and WLC two.
- The defeat eliminated Marian NACC Tournament contention.
- Marian is now 2-3 this season in games decided by one run.
- The Sabres are now 68-18 all-time against WLC with the defeat snapping an eight-game winning streak against the Warriors.
