Marian University ACHA D3 (1-5-0, 1-3-0 MACHA) earned its first victory of the season as part of a road split at Illinois State.

GAME 1 (L, 6-1)
- The opener was tight for 40 minutes before Illinois State was able to pull away in the final period.
- Nick Paul scored in the opening period but the Sabres still trailed 2-1 after the first period.
- After a scoreless second period, the Redbirds were able to pull away in the third period scoring four goals.
GAME 2 (W, 4-3)
- The second game followed a similar script with a lot of offense coming in the opening period as Marian trailed 3-2 after 20 minutes.
- Brandon Fain and James Murphy each lit the lamp for the Sabres.
- A second straight game without any goals in the second period set Marian up for a third-period rally.
- Murphy proved to be the hero in the final 20 minutes scoring twice, once on a power play, to propel Marian to its first win.

GAME 1
- Marian was outshot 43-25 for the game but was only outshot 10-8 in the final period.
- The Sabre power play was scoreless on three chances, while the penalty kill allowed one goal on four Redbird opportunities.
GAME 2
- Marian was edged in shots by a 51-30 margin but had 12 shots in each of the final two periods.
- The Marian power play had a strong game going 2-for-5, while the penalty kill unit allowed one goal on six Illinois State chances.
- The victory was the first win for Marian over Illinois State.

James Murphy had a hat trick in the finale of the series to lead Marian to its first win of the campaign. | |
