Inclusion Mural Installed in Downtown FDL Parking Ramp

A mural showcasing what inclusion means to youth in the Greater Fond du Lac area is now on display in the Portland Street Parking Ramp in Downtown Fond du Lac.

A team from Leadership Fond du Lac, a program of Envision Greater Fond du Lac, engaged the area’s high school population earlier this year as part of the team’s community project – a mural contest beautifying the Portland Street Parking Ramp in Downtown Fond du Lac. The mural contest invited local 6th-12th grade students throughout the Fond du Lac area to showcase their artistic talents and what inclusion in Fond du Lac meant to them. Community members were then invited to vote on their favorite design from choices that had been narrowed down by area leaders.

The winning entry was created by a student of Horace Mann High School who stated her mural was designed with “many colors representing how different people can come together. The music notes and other objects represent things that bring people together.” The mural has already been serving as a fun photo opportunity for those that see themselves in the shadow and mimic its positioning to capture the moment.

The team members from this project included a vast representation of the business community, including: Carly Cline, formerly of Lutheran Homes & Health Services; Becky Guseck, National Exchange Bank & Trust; Audra Hoffmann, Agnesian HealthCare; Ali Klimko, City of Fond du Lac;  Brian Mand, Aramark; Melissa Meikle, Mid-States Aluminum Corp.; and Sarah Spang, Envision Greater Fond du Lac.
