Brian Bator has been announced as the next head coach of the Marian University ACHA Division II hockey program.   

“We’re excited to welcome Brian to Marian University,” said Director of Athletics Tony Draves.  “His player-centered approach is going to give our student-athletes a great experience in our club hockey world.”

Bator joins Marian after most recently serving as an associate head coach for the men’s ice hockey program at Franklin Pierce University.  During this time, Bator managed all aspects of coaching and administration of an NCAA Division III program.  The final year of his tenure saw the Ravens tie a program record for victories.  A total of four student-athletes earned Northeast-10 All-Conference recognition, including the Goaltender of the Year, in his three seasons. 

“I am extremely excited to join the Sabre family here at Marian University,” said Bator.  “I want to thank Tony Draves, the hiring committee, and the rest of the Marian University community for the opportunity to lead the ACHA Division II hockey program. I am humbled to lead the next phase of the program and see our young men succeed on the ice, in the classroom, and the community.” 

His coaching experience goes beyond hockey as Bator also served as a pitching coach for Franklin Pierce.  The Ravens were ranked No. 1 in the nation during his second season and finished the year with 48 victories.  The following season saw Franklin Pierce win their regional and qualify for the NCAA Division II National Tournament for the seventh time in program history. 

Bator earned his bachelor’s degree from Franklin Pierce while competing for both the baseball and hockey programs.  The Ravens qualified for the NCAA Division II World Series in baseball three times while he was a member of the program.
