First and Last Name: Rachel Fuller
Hometown: Bishop Hill, Illinois
What Brought you to Fond du Lac: Working at the Fond du Lac Public Library
Place of Employment and Position: Fond du Lac Public Library – Library Director
What do you enjoy the most about your career? Libraries connect people with the information they seek, and this service is essential for maintaining strong, healthy, and free communities in our country. I love that I get to be part of a dedicated and professional team who serve our community by doing this work every day.
What words of wisdom would you share with other YP’s in relation to career building? My first boss was a small-town restaurant owner. At her restaurant, she had a big sign that read “Rules of Life and the Sandbox: Be Nice, Play Fair, And Share.” It is simple but sage advice that applies in all situations.
Who or what inspires and motivates you to be your best? My family. I am blessed to come from a family with both a farming and entertainment background (an uncommon mix), and both of these lifestyles have taught me how much agency we each have in shaping our lives. My family also taught me to take pride in who I am, the experiences I’ve had, the work I do, and to always seek new ideas. In short, I’m motivated to do my best each day because that’s how I was raised and it’s now part of who I am.
What are 3 Characteristics and/or Strengths that make you who you are? I’m pragmatic, creative, and fun-loving.
What is your favorite thing to do in your free time/a hobby you enjoy? I enjoy so many things: travelling, being outside, watching sports, reading, and creating – largely through fiber arts hobbies.
Name something you enjoy doing in the Greater Fond du Lac Area that others should check out: There are so many things I enjoy, not least of which is knowing I still have so much more to discover! So far, some of my favorite places include Lakeside Park, Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts, the Farmer’s Market, Bagelmeister, and the Library (of course!). I also enjoy the nature trails in the area, exploring and supporting the local businesses in downtown Fond du Lac, and attending community events and festivals – there’s always something going on!
How do you engage in our community? I’m enjoying settling in, and I love that I’m learning more all the time. Currently, I’m attending community events, meeting new people, and have become a member of the Fond du Lac Noon Rotary Club.
Share a lesson you have learned or a nugget of advice with other YP’s: Step forward. The difference-makers are the ones willing to step forward and contribute.
What do you love about the Greater Fond du Lac Area today and what is your hope for its future in the years to come? I love that this area has a beautiful balance of local businesses, outdoor activities, arts and entertainment options, and a small-town feel. I hope for continued community vibrancy and interconnectedness.
