Three student-athletes from the Marian University field hockey program have been recognized by the Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CFHC).
Charlotte Touw (Utrecht, Netherlands) showed no signs of a sophomore slump earning First Team All-CFHC recognition. Touw was the top goal scorer in the conference during the regular season with 14 and was tied for the conference lead for points with 31. She was one of just six student-athletes in the conference with at least three game-winning goals. Touw was held without a point in only five games during the regular season. She had a hand in multiple goals in four games with three of those performances being multi-goal efforts. Touw had a stretch of six straight games with a goal that was capped off by back-to-back multi-goal games against Wooster and Kenyon. She went on to earn CFHC Offensive Player of the Week honors following the nine-point weekend against the Fighting Scots and Owls. Touw was a Second Team All-CFHC pick and CFHC Newcomer of the Year last season.
Shaelyn Klassen (Calgary, Alberta) increased her role on the squad and it earned her a spot on the All-CFHC Second Team. Klassen finished the season with 10 goals and six assists for 26 total points on the season, doubling her point total from last year. She opened the season with a goal in seven of the first eight games of the season including multi-goal games against DePauw and Kenyon. Her multi-goal game against DePauw was followed by a goal and an assist in a win over Wittenberg, which earned her CFHC Offensive Player of the Week recognition. Klassen also had the first multi-assist game of her career against Sewanee. This is the first All-Conference award for her career.
Teresa Rubio (Nazareth, Penn.) was the Marian honoree for the CFHC All-Sportsmanship Team. Rubio was once again an anchor for the Sabre defense all season long and helped lead Marian to shutouts against Wittenberg and Transylvania. The Marian defense also had six games this season allowing five or fewer shots on goal. This includes the win over Transylvania where Marian didn’t allow a single shot on goal. Rubio was an All-CFHC Tournament Team selection last season.
