Young Professional of the Month – May 2018: Chris Ward

Hometown: Mundelein, Illinois

Education: Illinois State University

Place of Employment and Position: Director of Tickets, Fond du Lac Dock Spiders

What do you enjoy the most about your current position?

Only having 3 full time front office staff members, I love that every day is different. Whether it’s selling tickets or sponsorships, working the retail store, wrapping hot dogs/working in concessions, coming up with new promotions, or graphic design, every day is unique.  Also having the opportunity to ask questions and learn from our staff and the Timber Rattlers every day, it provides for an encyclopedia of knowledge and great experience to draw from.

What is the one thing you would do if you knew you could not fail?

I would go for gold in the Skeleton event during the Winter Olympic Games.

How has YPF contributed to your personal and/or professional development?

Moving to a new town and starting a new job a year ago, YPF helped me get acclimated and involved in the community.  All of the social and professional events that YPF puts together has made Fond du Lac a great place to call home, while also helping me learn and develop new skills in my early professional career.

Who or what is your source of professional inspiration?

My parents. My mom worked for HBO and brought home the coolest props.  We also got to meet Chris Rock and Muhammad Ali. My dad has worked in sales for CDW and taught me the game of baseball. Ever since I was a kid, both of them showed me how fun sales and marketing could be as a career path.

What words of wisdom do you have for other young professionals working in Fond du Lac?

Always be willing to take chances, even if you’re timid at first, it can only make you grow as a person and what’s more fun than challenging yourself and taking a risk.
