What do you enjoy the most about your career?
The best part of my job is helping families in our community get into their homes. Whether it’s their first home, or their forever home, each mortgage closing is very rewarding. Not only is it rewarding, but it challenges me every day. I constantly come across scenarios that encourage me to think outside the box and find creative ways to get to the end goal. You never stop learning!
What words of wisdom would you share with other YP’s in relation to career building?
Don’t sell yourself short and be open to new opportunities. There were so many times I thought “I could never do that” or “I’m not ready for that yet.” Once I found the strength to push myself past my comfort zone and realize I was capable of more, it was a game changer. This mind set has led me to find a career I never thought I would do yet, I found my niche and I love it.
Who or what inspires and motivates you to be your best?
I have to take this opportunity to give a huge shout out to a lot of my co-workers here. I am unbelievably fortunate to have supervisors and co-workers who empower and push each other, not only at work, but to be involved in the community, and be there for each other when it comes to our home and family life. I have found a ton of growth in the past couple years due to my co-workers rooting and encouraging each other to be the best version of ourselves, personally and professionally.
What are 3 Characteristics and/or Strengths that make you who you are?
- I am an extrovert; I love being around people and talking with people.
- I am a determined person. Although this can drive my boss a little nuts, as I don’t like to hear the word no, it has proven to be a strength in my career.
- I like to find humor and joy whenever possible. Work and daily life can be stressful; I like having the ability to keep things lighthearted whenever I can, and hopefully influencing those around me.
What is your favorite thing to do in your free time/a hobby you enjoy?
My favorite thing to do in my spare time is spend time with my family. My husband and I have 3 boys ages 9, 5, and 2. We love to go camping (yes we all pile into a tent!), we love finding summer music festivals and concerts to attend together, but also just spending time together at home.
What is your favorite part about being in YPF and how has it benefited you?
My favorite part about being in YPF is making connections and working with other professionals to grow in our careers, as well as in our community. Once I became more involved in YPF, I gained confidence to become more involved in other community organizations that I feel passionate about and make a difference.
What does community engagement look like for you?
I love to be involved with organizations I feel make our community stronger. Recently, I have become a coach for Girls On The Run. I’m so excited and honored to take part in empowering young girls in our community to build confidence and valuable life skills. I am also a board member with New Beginnings Pregnancy Care Center. If you are not familiar, we are a residence that gives pregnant women or mothers with young children a place to stay while offering a variety of resources such as health and nutrition education, as well as teaching healthy parenting and life skills.
Share a lesson you have learned or a nugget of advice with other YP’s:
My advice to other YP’s is to make sure you have a good balance between work, community involvement, and home life. I think young professionals are eager to get involved and want to make an impact in the community. However, we can sometimes overexert ourselves trying to keep up with too many commitments. That eventually takes a toll on us, as well as our family and friends. Pick what you are passionate about and put your all your effort into a couple things at time so you don’t get burned out. That is how we make the biggest impact.
What do you love about the Fond du Lac area today and what is your hope for it’s tomorrow?
I always say Fond du Lac is a “little big city.” It is not your small town, but we really do have a small community feel to us. Between downtown markets, festivals, and activities, there is always something going on in Fond du Lac that bring people together.
My hope is that Fond du Lac continues to create businesses, and events throughout the city that attracts young families. It is important for young professionals to want to come and stay in Fond du lac. It can be a great place to plant roots with your family and thrive in your career.
