WMC Statement on UW President Jay Rothman

MADISON – Kurt R. Bauer, President/CEO of Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC), issued the following statement ahead of the April 7th Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents meeting to decide the fate of UW President Jay Rothman.

“Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, Wisconsin’s largest business association, offers its full support and confidence in UW President Jay Rothman’s leadership and strongly urges the UW Board of Regents to reject what appears to be a capricious, unfair, and possibly partisan attempt to remove Rothman from his position.

Jay has an impressive record of accomplishments, highlighted by his ability to straddle the partisan divide, a noble and critical skill in a politically divided state.

WMC has also appreciated Jay’s vision, which includes focusing on the workforce needs of Wisconsin employers, delivering a world-class education to students, providing value to taxpayers, and enhancing the reputation of the Universities of Wisconsin. However, that reputation will be severely tarnished by the Board of Regents if it votes to remove Jay from his position without justification.”
