Sophomore Kiara Williams of Marian University women’s basketball and junior JeanLuc Wilson of Marian University men’s basketball have been named the Sabres of the Month for December.
Williams (Warren, Mich.) continued her dominating second season in a Sabre uniform by averaging a double-double in the month of December. She averaged 18.8 points per game on the month and averaged 13.2 rebounds per game. She also added seven assists and eight steals while shooting 43.2 percent from the field over six games. Williams had at least 18 points in five of the six games during the month and three games with at least 14 boards. She closed out the month scoring 28 points against UW-La Crosse while grabbing 17 rebounds. Williams ranks sixth in the nation with her eight doule-doubles on the season, and her 17.2 points per game average leads the NACC. This is the second Sabre of the Month award for Williams in her Marian career.
Wilson (East Moline, Ill.) paced the Sabres both offensively and defensively in December. He finished the month averaging 10.0 points per game with a team-high nine three-pointers, also shot 50-percent from beyond the arc. Wilson also led Marian with a 4.8 rebounds per game average and was fourth on the team with nine assists. He was just as impressive on the defensive end where he had 15 steals and three blocks. He had multiple steals in four of six games in December and closed out the month with a six-steal performance against Lawrence. Wilson also had a pair of performances with double-digit points posting 12 against WLC and 10 versus No. 7 UW-Whitewater.
Both basketball programs take on Concordia Wisconsin tomorrow, Wednesday, January 3, at 7 p.m. with the men on the road and the women at home.
