Trio of Sabres named All-CFHC; Touw Newcomer of the Year

Three Sabres from the Marian University field hockey program have been named All-CFHC highlighted by freshman Charlotte Touw earning Newcomer of the Year recognition.

Senior Jikke Biemans (Rijen, Netherlands) earns All-Conference recognition for the fourth time earning a spot on the First Team for a third time.  Biemans continued her offensive dominance as one of the top scorers in the nation.  She finished the regular season tied for second in the conference for goals with 11 and fourth for total points at 24.  Biemans was also one of five student-athletes in the conference with at least three game-winning goals.  She had multiple goals in three games including a hat trick against Wittenberg.  Biemans earned CFHC Offensive Player of the Week honors twice with the second coming after her Wittenberg performance.  In her 63 career games, Biemans scored 50 goals and added 22 assists for 122 total points.

Freshman Charlotte Touw (Utrecht, Netherlands) was named Second Team All-CFHC along with being the Newcomer of the Year.  Touw made an immediate impact and was one of the top scorers for the Sabres in her first season.  She ranked second in the CFHC with seven assists, third for total points at 27, and tied for fourth with 10 goals.  Touw had at least one point in all but six games and was named the CFHC Offensive Player of the Week after a three-point weekend at Keuka and Nazareth.  She had a hand in multiple goals four times with two multi-goal games and two multi-assist games.  At Wooster, Touw had a season-high three assists.  She was one of five student-athletes in the conference with at least three game-winning goals.  Touw becomes the second Newcomer of the Year in program history.

Junior Angelene Castro (Morgan Hill, Calif.) earns All-Conference recognition for the first time earning a spot on the Second Team.  Castro played a major role for a Sabre defense that ranked second in the CFHC for only allowing 19 goals.  Marian also had four shutouts on the campaign.  Her lone point of the season was an assist against Centre that gave Marian a 2-1 lead.

Also earning recognition was freshman Nora McDowell (Burlington, Mass.) who was the Marian representative on the CFHC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Marian opens the CFHC Tournament taking on Concordia Wisconsin Thursday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. from Smith Field.
