Trio of Sabres earn CSC Academic All-District honors

Three Sabres from the Marian University women’s soccer program have been named Academic All-District by the organization College Sports Communicators.

The CSC Academic All-American program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their efforts both in competition and in the classroom.  To be eligible, a student-athlete must compete in 90 percent of their team’s games, be a key starter or reserve on their team, and attain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5. They must also hold at least sophomore standing at their institution.

Junior Emily Gordillo (Compton, Calif.) earns her first CSC Academic All-District award after being named First Team All-NACC for the second time in her career.  Gordillo ranked first on the team in assists and second for goals and points. She was one of five Sabres to appear in all 20 games this season and the only student-athlete to start in all 20. Gordillo finished tied for third in the NACC for assists with eight. She also ranked eighth in the conference for game-winning goals. Gordillo had two goals in a 6-0 win over Lakeland (Sept. 24) and two assists in a 4-0 win over Aurora (Oct. 10). Through 56 career games, Gordillo has totals of 19 goals, 16 assists, and 54 points, 17th on the Marian all-time scoring list.

Senior Brianna Guelig (Mount Calvary, Wis.) had a breakout final campaign to earn her first All-NACC award along with her first CSC Academic All-District award.  Guelig led the Sabres with 10 goals and 22 points, being the first Sabre to record a double-digit goal campaign since Ashley Welk in 2021. These figures marked a huge improvement from her previous season-highs of three goals and nine points during the 2023 season. Guelig was one of only six student-athletes in the NACC to record double-digit goals on the season. Guelig also ranked fifth in the NACC for game-winning goals and points. She had two goals in a 10-0 victory over Rockford (Sept. 27), which kicked off a stretch of scoring in six of Marian’s next seven games. Guelig also recorded two assists in a 4-0 win over Aurora (Oct. 10). Guelig finishes her Sabre soccer career with 16 goals and 37 points across 50 appearances.

Senior Chelsea King (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) is named a CSC Academic All-District recipient for the third time after another strong season in goal for the Sabres.  King went 4-8-4 in goal for the Sabres recording 64 saves with a .689 save percentage and three shutouts. King had five or more saves in four games this season, with her season-high of eight coming in the season finale against Edgewood (Nov. 2) in the NACC Tournament. King earned the eighth NACC Defensive Player of the Week selection of her career in late October. For that week, she had a four-save performance in a tie against WLC and posted a shutout in a win over Concordia Chicago. King concludes her Marian soccer career with 325 saves, 13 shutouts, and a record of 21-22-11 across 55 career games. In Marian history, King finishes her career tied for second in shutouts and sixth for saves.
