Trio from Marian women’s soccer earn CSC Academic All-District recognition

Three student-athletes from the Marian University women’s soccer program have been recognized as Academic All-District by the organization College Sports Communicators (CSC).

The CSC Academic All-American program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their efforts both in competition and in the classroom.  To be eligible, a student-athlete must compete in 90 percent of their team’s games, be a key starter or reserve on their team, and attain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5. They must also hold at least sophomore standing at their institution.

Senior Jacqueline Campos (Azusa, Calif.) had a strong final season combined with her 3.90 grade-point average as a double major in psychology and criminal justice earns her the first CSC Academic All-District award of her career.  Campos had a strong finish to her career as a Sabre ranking fourth on the team with five goals and 11 total points.  She had the first multi-goal effort of her career at Lakeland in a 3-1 victory.  One of her goals proved to be the game-winning score.  Campos closes out her career with eight goals and four assists for 20 total points in just 38 games played.

Senior Isabella Goodson (Live Oak, Calif.) earns her first CSC Academic All-District selection following a breakout season combined with a 3.54 grade-point average in radiologic technology.  Goodson had a breakout season leading Marian with eight goals and 18 total points.  She would score in six different games including a hat trick against Benedictine where she also had an assist as part of a seven-point game.  One of her goals against the Eagles also went on to prove to be the game-winner.  Goodson had just 23 shots on goal for the season to give her an impressive .535 shooting percentage.  In her 36 games as a Sabre, Goodson scored 12 goals to go with two assists for 26 total points.

Junior Chelsea King (Wiscosnin Rapids, Wis.) is the lone repeat selection after another strong season in net along with posting a 3.54 grade-point average as a nursing major.  King went 5-9-4 on the season making 135 saves with a .789 save percentage and three shutouts.  She would rank second in the NACC for total saves and fifth in the conference for save percentage.  King had double-digit saves in five games including a career-high 19 saves against No. 16 Loras.  She would earn a NACC Defensive Player of the Week award for the performance.  King earned a second weekly award after finishing the regular season with 19 saves and a .905 save percentage against Lakeland and Edgewood.
