A trio of student-athletes from the Marian University women’s lacrosse program have earned Academic All-District status from College Sports Communicators (CSC).
The CSC Academic All-American program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their efforts both in competition and in the classroom. To be eligible, a student-athlete must compete in 90 percent of their team’s games, be a key starter or reserve on their team, and attain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5. They must also hold at least sophomore standing at their institution.
Senior Kayla Kolpitcke (Powell, Wyo.) was an All-NACC pick for the first time this year and earns her second CSC Academic All-District award. Kolpitcke finished the regular season fourth in the NACC with 2.2 caused turnovers per game and 11th in the entire country, second in the NACC, with 5.07 ground balls per game. She had at least five ground balls in seven games including a career-best 12 coming against Hendrix in the season opener. She also had five caused turnovers against Hendrix earning her NACC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Kolpitcke caused multiple turnovers in 10 games with a career-best six coming in a one-goal win at UW-Stout. Offensively, she had multiple goals in three games with a four-goal game coming at Illinois Tech. She leaves Marian the all-time leader for ground balls and caused turnovers.
Senior Gwen Kosirog (Burlington, Wis.) was strong in goal once again for the Sabres to earn Academic All-District recognition. She appeared and started in goal 16 times for the Sabres boasting a 6-10 record with a 11.38 goals-against average, second in the NACC, and .424 save percentage, fourth in the NACC. Kosirog finished with double-digit saves in four games including a season-high 17 stops against Beloit, she also had a .515 save percentage against the Buccaneers. She also had a save percentage higher than .500 in eight games. Kosirog allowed five or fewer in goals in two games and had a stretch of four straight games where she allowed eight or fewer scores. She grabbed 49 ground balls on the season, ninth in the NACC for ground balls per game, with four caused turnovers. Kosirog had at least four ground balls in six games with a season-high nine coming at Carthage.
Senior Nicole Stachon (Kenosha, Wis.) closed out an illustrious career with an All-NACC pick and adds her second CSC Academic All-District honor. Stachon led the Sabre offense all season long finishing with 32 goals and 15 assists for 47 total points over 14 games played. She scored multiple goals in seven games and netted three game-winning goals. She had three games where she scored at least five goals including a career-best eight goals against Elmhurst. Stachon also added four assists in the win over the Blue Jays for 12 total points. She would grab at least four ground balls in eight games and had at least four draw controls in five games. Stachon finishes her career the all-time leader for games played, points, assists, and draw controls.
