Marian University Nets New Director for Exercise and Sport Science

One of Marian University’s most popular programs has a new director.  Brian Edlbeck has joined the Marian faculty as Director and Associate Professor of Exercise and Sport Science.

Edlbeck brings a wealth of experience, including exercise science, nutrition, and strength and conditioning.  He is active in United States of America Powerlifting (USAPL) and his certifications with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) include Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT).

“Taking on this role at Marian University feels like coming home,” said Edlbeck. “As someone originally from northeast Wisconsin, I’m eager to contribute to the area’s education in exercise and sport.  This position allows me to help develop the next generation of leaders in the field at a time when health and wellness are incredibly important.”

The Ashwaubenon native has a Master of Science in Kinesiology, focusing on Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics, from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.  He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Leadership in Health and Human Performance at Concordia University, Chicago.  His doctoral research focuses on the accuracy of overfat and overweight classifications in NCAA Division III athletes, highlighting the important connection between health metrics and athletic performance.

Prior to Marian, Edlbeck was a Clinical Assistant Professor in Exercise Science and a Human Performance Coach at Carroll University.  He has also been an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and a Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Colorado Rockies baseball team.  He began his professional journey as a Nutritionist/Health Educator at Wee Care WIC, the Wisconsin Department of Health program that provides supplemental nutrition for Women, Infants and Children.
