Recognition Spotlights Commitment to Delivering Exceptional Care to Patients
ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah has again been recognized for the high-quality care it provides patients in its bariatric surgery center.
The medical center’s bariatric surgery program recently received national accreditation as a Comprehensive Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Center with Obesity Medicine Qualifications. The accreditation is a quality initiative from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).
There are 10 other MBSAQIP centers in Wisconsin.
“This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, cost-effective care for our patients and their families,” said Dr. Raymond Georgen, a General Surgeon and Medical Director of ThedaCare Bariatrics. “We are proud of the exceptional work of our multidisciplinary bariatric team and remain dedicated to upholding this standard every day as we support people across our region pursuing bariatric options to enhance their overall health and well-being.”

The Bariatric Surgery Program at ThedaCare offers a comprehensive approach to bariatrics. Some of the services provided by the program include:
- A minimally invasive approach for bariatric procedures
- Nutritional education and guidance
- Professional exercise training
- Emotional support and counseling
- Help with insurance considerations
“Patients who choose us for their bariatric journey can expect the support of a collaborative, patient-centered team of medical experts ranging from dietitians, exercise physiologists and navigators, to care managers, behavioral health specialists and patient champions,” Dr. Georgen said. “This is a coordinated approach designed to help enhance care coordination and improve outcomes during each patient’s bariatric experience. It’s what helps set us apart as leaders in bariatric care across northeast and central Wisconsin.”
Research shows MBSAQIP-accredited centers experience lower complications and better outcomes than non-accredited facilities. A Comprehensive Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Center with Obesity Medicine Qualifications is the highest level of MBSAQIP accreditation. It means the center in question has gone through a thorough review that better ensures:
- Operating rooms, equipment and technology can perform even the most complex weight loss surgery procedures.
- Medical, surgical and other procedures for weight management services will advance the quality of care and safety.
- Surgeon and staff are trained and experienced.
- Nationally recognized weight loss surgery benchmarks, outcomes and care standards.
- Continued support after surgery.
“Weight loss surgery may be life-changing for some. It requires preparation and support from a team of experts for the best outcome,” Dr. Georgen said. “Choosing an accredited program can provide patients the peace of mind that comes from receiving high-quality care throughout the weight-loss journey.”
As an MBSAQIP-accredited hospital, ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah also becomes an American College of Surgeons Surgical Quality Partner. Being a Surgical Quality Partner signifies a hospital’s dedication to consistently improving procedures and approaches, while maintaining a critical eye on process at every step.
“ACS Quality programs are grounded in more than a century of experience and participation is an important measure of a hospital’s surgical quality,” said ACS Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer Patricia L. Turner, MD, MBA, FACS. “As an ACS Surgical Quality Partner, ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah has shown a commitment to providing the best possible patient care, evaluating that care in a rigorous fashion and dedicating themselves to continuous self-improvement.”
Dr. Georgen said patients directly benefit from the distinction.
“MBSAQIP-accredited centers aim to meet or exceed the highest quality standards,” he said. “As a result, our patients are more likely to have successful outcomes.”
ThedaCare has been recognized as an accredited bariatric surgery center by the MBSAQIP since 2006.
