Free technology classes are available now in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. Bug Tussel University, a program committed to developing digital literacy, teaches classes on news literacy, online safety, and more.
The educational program from internet service provider Bug Tussel is committed to making quality education accessible to all and reducing the digital divide. The program’s mission is to provide individuals with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to thrive while using technology in their everyday lives. Bug Tussel University offers free technology classes in Fond du Lac County in support of the county’s partnership with Bug Tussel to develop broadband expansion and fiber infrastructure in Fond du Lac County.
Bug Tussel University has developed a passionate and steady audience at the Fond du Lac Senior Center since it began offering classes there in August of 2022. The program reached over 165 students at the senior center in 2023 and continues to provide quality technology education at the location regularly.
Faces lit up with astonishment, says teacher Gerald Rego, when students learned how to make video calls with their smartphones at a “How to Video Chat” class at the Fond du Lac Senior Center on December 20, 2023. One student stayed after class to email his children, asking them to set up a video call for the Christmas holiday.
Sarah Docter, the Program Coordinator for the Fond du lac Senior Center, explains, “Our partnership with Bug Tussel is very valuable. The classes they provide at the Center are among the first to fill up each month, sometimes with waiting lists. We appreciate being able to educate our participants on new and relevant topics on everything from “How to Video Chat”, “Internet Safety”, “Stream On” which discusses a wide variety of television streaming services, introducing podcasts, even teaching our participants how to spot fake news. The instructors are patient, engaging and very knowledgeable.”
