Strong Second Half Not Enough for Sabre Men’s Lacrosse at Carroll

Marian University men’s lacrosse (1-7, 0-3 NACC) outscored Carroll in the second half but fell by a 14-7 final.

  • The opening half was all Pioneers as Carroll scored three in the first and eight in the second to take an 11-0 lead into halftime.
  • Three of the goals scored by the Pioneers came with a man-up advantage.
  • The Marian rally began in the third quarter where Marian outscored Carroll 4-1.
  • Senior Hayden Powless had a pair of man-up goals and graduate student Erik Horman netted a goal in the final second to put Marian down 12-4.
  • After Carroll opened the fourth quarter scoring Marian was able to outscore the Pioneers 3-1 the rest of the way.
  • All three of the Sabre goals in the final quarter came with a man-up advantage.
  • Marian finished the second half outscoring the Pioneers 7-3.

  • The Sabres finished with a slim 37-35 advantage in ground balls.
  • Marian scored a season-high five man-up goals.
  • This is the first victory for Carroll over Marian in three meetings all-time.

Senior Hayden Powless had another strong game offensively with a hat trick.
Sophomore Jackson Sweeney made 17 saves and finished with a .548 save percentage.  He also had seven ground balls.
Junior Trevor Stachowski had a season-high four points with a goal and an assist.
