Strong Second Half Leads Sabre Women’s Soccer Past Rockford

Marian University women’s soccer (5-6-2, 2-2-2 NACC) scored four goals in the second half to defeat Rockford 5-0.

  • Marian controlled most of the action but it was Rockford who nearly scored first after hitting the post in the 27th minute.
  • Shortly after, Marian was able to take advantage of a defensive miscue from Rockford to take a 1-0 lead at the 33:37 mark.
  • This 1-0 tally held going into halftime.
  • Just 9:25 into the second half, senior Ashley York buried a rebound from sophomore Emily Gordillo off of a free kick for her first goal as a Sabre.
  • Another senior in Baylee Alvarado netted her fifth goal in the 68th minute with a struck into the far corner.
  • Then Marian scored twice in the final 8:50 opening with senior Isabella Goodson in the 82nd minute, assist to Alvarado.
  • Senior Jacqueline Campos closed out the scoring with 4:34 to play netting her third of the campaign.
