Streaking Stars rally to defeat Sabre men’s basketball

Marian University men’s basketball (13-5, 6-5 NACC) led for most of the game but was defeated by Dominican 80-74.

  • Marian quickly found themselves ahead 15-8 to open the game and led by as many as 13 points in the first half at 32-19.
  • The Stars had a strong close to the half using a 10-4 run to only trail seven at halftime.
  • The Sabres had another strong start to the second half and were ahead 57-44 with 12:25 to play.
  • Dominican wouldn’t go away, however, using an 11-2 run later in the half to take the lead at 70-69.
  • Marian tied the game with a free throw in its next possession but the Stars continued its run with five straight points to take the lead for good.
  • The Stars were able to put the game away going 5-of-6 at the free-throw line in the final 18 seconds.
  • Marian went 30-of-64 (.469) from the field but struggled beyond the arc shooting 3-of-26 (.115).
  • The Sabres were also only 11-for-19 (.579) at the charity stripe.
  • Dominican shot 23-of-50 (.460) and 10-for-22 (.455) from beyond the arc.
  • Marian had 15 offensive rebounds and outscored Dominican 17-8 in second chance points.
  • The Sabres had a hefty 50-24 advantage for points in the paint.
  • The Dominican bench scored 44 points.
  • Marian falls to 25-13 all-time against Dominican

Sophomore Andrew Ayeni scored a game-high 20 points shooting 9-of-12 (.750) from the field.

 

 

 

 

Senior Eli Vogel nearly had a double-double scoring 13 points with nine rebounds.

 

 

 

 

Junior Brandon Adorno scored 10 points and added seven assists.
