Stout defense keeps Sabre men’s hoops perfect

Marian University men’s basketball (10-0, 4-0 NACC) never trailed defeating Edgewood on the road 72-45.

  • After a 6-6 start Marian took a sizable lead with a 12-2 run to build an 18-10 advantage.
  • The Eagles cut that deficit to seven before eight unanswered points from the Sabres extended the MU lead to 28-13.
  • Marian was able to lead by as much as 17 in the opening stanza with the halftime score settling at 38-25.
  • A quick start for Edgewood saw the Eagles cut the Marian lead down to eight points.
  • The Sabres fought off the momentum shift and led 54-41 with 9:56 to play before finishing the game on an 18-4 spurt.
  • This strong finish put the final at 72-45.

Junior Alex Vassilakis nearly had a double-double scoring nine points to go with 10 rebounds.
Sophomore Sam Gingras chipped in 12 points and had six boards to go with two assists.
