Seniors Tanner Alsteen and Nicole Stachon have been named the Sabres of the Month for April.
Stachon (Kenosha, Wis.) closed out a spectacular career with Marian women’s lacrosse with arguably the best month of her career. She finished the month with 34 goals and six assists for 40 total points over seven games, or a 5.7 points per game average. She also led the team with 33 draw controls, 30 ground balls, and 14 caused turnovers. Stachon had at least five goals in five of the seven games finishing the season with a career-high eight scores in an 18-4 win over Lawrence. On free positions, Stachon couldn’t miss going 10-for-13 (.769) in April. She graduates the all-time leader for games played, games started, points, goals, assists, ground balls, and draw controls.
Alsteen (Casco, Wis.) dominated on the mound leading Marian to a spot in the NACC Tournament. He went 4-1 over the month boasting a 2.76 earned run average over 42.1 innings of work. Alsteen showed his versatility spending time as a starter and in the bullpen totaling nine appearances where he allowed one or fewer earned runs in six of those outings. He earned a NACC Pitcher of the Week award after throwing a total of 13.0 innings against Edgewood and Dominican where he allowed just one unearned run. Against Edgewood, he tossed a complete game scattering eight hits and allowing zero earned runs. Alsteen ranks fifth in the NACC with 56.1 innings pitched.
Marian baseball closes out the regular season against Wisconsin Lutheran from Herr-Baker Field Friday, May 2 at noon.
