Stachon added to Marian women’s lacrosse coaching staff

Nicole Stachon has been added to the Marian University women’s lacrosse coaching staff as a graduate assistant.

“We are excited to welcome Nicole back to the team and to the athletic department at Marian,” said Ybarra.  “Nicole brings a new energy to the lacrosse staff.  We are excited to watch her grow into this new position and continue to expand her coaching knowledge.  I look forward to working with her and using her knowledge of the game in a new capacity.”

Stachon recently finished her Marian playing career and is regarded as arguably the best to ever don the blue and white.  She earned All-NACC recognition twice in her career including a First Team selection in her final season.  In that final campaign she ranked sixth in the NACC for goals per game, eighth for points per game, and became just the second Sabre to reach 70 points in a single season with 73.  Stachon graduated as the program leader for games played, goals, assists, points, ground balls, free-position goals, and draw controls.  She also ranks second in the career records for caused turnovers with 84, one of just two student-athletes with more than 80 caused turnovers.  Stachon served as a captain for the team four of the five seasons she competed.  In the classroom, Stachon was a three-time CSC Academic All-District award winner.

“I am grateful to Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Corri Ybarra, Director of Athletics Tony Draves, and the entire Marian community for giving me this opportunity to return to such an amazing program,” said Stachon. “I deeply enjoyed playing for the Marian women’s lacrosse team for five years.  I am incredibly incredibly excited to return and give back to the team that has shaped me as an individual and look forward to continuing the success that Coach Ybarra and I achieved during my playing career.”

Outside of Marian, Stachon spent time with the Wisconsin-based girls lacrosse travel club Black Lax.  She began her time with Black Lax as an assistant coach for the high school girls’ team in the fall of 2023.  She then took over as the head coach of the U14 girls’ team this past spring.  During this time she has been responsible for designing practice plans and teaching her athletes about improving their game to best suit the next level.

Stachon earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and recently completed a Master of Arts in Education degree with an emphasis on at-risk and alternative education.  Both degrees were earned at Marian University.
