SSM Health welcomes certified hand therapist

Jessica Mischler, MOTR, CHT, PhD Scholar, CMTPT, CLT, a certified hand therapist, has joined SSM Health providing services at SSM Health Therapy Services, 421 Camelot Drive in Fond du Lac.

A certified hand therapist (CHT) is a licensed occupational or physical therapist who has specialized training in upper extremity rehabilitation. They specialize in providing therapeutic interventions for conditions affecting the hand, wrist, and upper extremity.

To earn their CHT certification, therapists must complete at least three years of clinical practice and pass a comprehensive exam administered by the Hand Therapy Certification Commission. Then, they must maintain their certification by completing continuing education credits every five years.

Mischler earned a bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitative Science and a master’s degree in occupational therapy from Concordia University. She is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association, American Society of Hand Therapists, and Wisconsin Occupational Therapy Association.

Her current certifications include dry needling and hand therapy. Individuals can avoid travel outside of Fond du Lac for Mischler’s specialized hand therapy care.

“Since entering the occupational therapy field, I have embraced opportunities to lead and deepen my understanding of how occupational therapy can transform lives,” Mischler shares. “This profession is uniquely centered on helping individuals regain or enhance participation in the activities that matter most to them. Whether it’s playing pickleball, performing manual labor to support a family, constructing homes, enjoying a card game, or simply managing household tasks, occupational therapy is dedicated to restoring individuals to their meaningful occupations.”

Mischler offers a client-centered approach to patient care. “My practice is structured around the individual goals, needs and aspirations of each patient, focusing on helping them return to meaningful occupations that enhance their quality of life,” she says. “I prioritize understanding what matters most to the patient on that particular day. I inquire about their current frustrations or challenges and collaboratively identify areas where we can make even one percent improvement toward their goals. This tailored approach ensures each session is purposeful and aligned with what is most important to the patient.”

Mischler is driven by the potential and growth she sees in others and finds great value in brainstorming and understanding diverse viewpoints. “Collaboration is essential,” she explains. “I firmly believe that meaningful relationships, strong teams, and expansive networks are invaluable. In a fast-paced world with increasing complexities, our connections with others are what ultimately enable us to navigate challenges and support one another.”

Family is Mischler’s foundation and greatest source of joy. “I dedicate myself to guiding and teaching my three children while ensuring our two dogs enjoy a fulfilling life,” she shares. “For over 20 years, I have strived to be a supportive and loving partner, committed to nurturing my marriage. Together with my partner, we enjoy attending our children’s sports and dance events, and pouring effort into their academic goals.”
