SSM Health supporting Children’s Museum health, wellness programs

SSM Health is supporting the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac through a $10,000 donation. The gift will help several year-round programs that address health and wellness development among children by learning through play.

Specific programs that will benefit from this assistance include Garden Club (nutrition and physical activity), Super Saturday (mental health and violence prevention), and Screen Free Week (mental health and physical activity).

This latest SSM Health contribution continues the ongoing collaboration with Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac to creatively address the community’s critical health needs, according to Andrea Welsch, executive director.

“We have appreciated working with SSM Health to develop innovative exhibits and programs, especially those related to health and wellness,” Welsch says. “We continually look for new and innovative strategies to reach all children in the community, regardless of their ability to pay fees. As a result, we provide education to children and their ‘grown ups’ inspiriting them to make healthy decisions and form healthy habits.”

SSM Health’s partnership with the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac has been in place since 2006.

“We greatly value the many ways that our collaboration has impacted our community,” according to Shane Smith, SSM Health Fond du Lac Market president. “We know that in addition to their physical health, a child’s well-being is affected by their mental and emotional health as well as their ability to feel like they have some control in their life through consistency and routines.

“Child well-being depends on a child’s feeling of safety and stability with their families and where they live,” Smith adds. “Children’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being support their overall development, which helps them to grow, learn, and build the skills they need to reach their full potential.”

In 2024, SSM Health Greater Fond du Lac’s community benefit ministry totaled more than $568,000 across the communities it serves. This investment helps ensure access to health care for patients who are uninsured or underinsured, train the next generation of health professionals to care for those in need, and fund programs to address the most pressing health needs of our communities.
