Ashley Kolberg, SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital Emergency Room manager, has been recognized with a Patriot Award by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).
The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.
An employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve, or the spouse of a Guard or Reserve member, may nominate individual supervisors and bosses for support provided directly to the nominating Service member and his or her family.
Kolberg was nominated by Ricardo Puente Romo, an SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital emergency medical technician. He serves in the Wisconsin Army National Guard as a health care sergeant/combat medic.
In his nomination, Kolberg was recognized for her unwavering support and consistent communication through his deployment.
“From the beginning, Ashley and I stayed in regular contact, exchanging monthly emails and updates to help me stay connected with my team back home,” Puente Romo shares. “During regularly scheduled drill weekends and annual training, Ashley has always been understanding and accommodating of my military commitments, ensuring I had the time I needed without added stress. Even while I was deployed, she made a point to check in periodically to see how I was doing and if I needed anything. She even went above and beyond by organizing and sending a thoughtful care package.”
Puente Romo also notes that her commitment has extended beyond times of deployment.
“She has provided mentorship and written letters of recommendation that have greatly supported my application to nursing school. Her guidance and encouragement have made a significant difference in both my military and professional journey.”
SSM Health leaders, including Kolberg, support their team members through various initiatives and practices that foster a positive and productive work environment.
“I am very honored to receive this recognition,” Kolberg says. “Receiving the Patriot Award is a testament to the unwavering commitment to those who serve our nation. It honors the spirit of support, understanding, and respect for the sacrifices made by our citizen-soldiers and their families.”
