SSM Health Greater Fond du Lac is welcoming Thomas Hinkamp, MD, a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon, to the SSM Health Dale Michels Heart & Vascular Care.
Dr. Hinkamp provides care as part of Cardiac Surgery Associates, SC (CSA), based in Downers Grove, Illinois. With more than 36 physicians and 24 locations, CSA prides itself on using the most up-to-date medical technology to provide the best care possible to patients. Its mission is to compassionately restore the fullness of health to patients and their families through surgical excellence, technology, and dedication.
At age 16, Dr. Hinkamp was diagnosed with aortic coarctation (narrowing of the large blood vessel that leads from the heart). A successful surgery and personal experiences played a role in his decision to become a heart surgeon.
“My own experiences have given me a good understanding of what my patients are going through when I care for them,” according to Dr. Hinkamp. “It’s important that we offer excellent, compassionate care. As a cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Hinkamp treats conditions like heart disease and lung disease. He specializes in surgical procedures of vital organs in the chest such as the heart, lungs, esophagus, and more.
Dr. Hinkamp provides care for individuals with cardiovascular and heart disorders, such as atherosclerosis, endocarditis, valvular, or congenital heart disease. Surgical procedures can include surgical implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators, heart valve repair, or coronary artery bypass.
A graduate of Stanford University with a degree in Chemistry and Biology, Dr. Hinkamp completed both his residency and fellowship at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and the American Board of Surgery Surgical Critical Care.
Dr. Hinkamp was instrumental in the development of the heart and lung transplant program at Loyola University Medical Center.
