The SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic is welcoming Sean Hedican, MD, a board-certified urologist. He is now accepting patients in Fond du Lac and Waupun.
Dr. Hedican specializes in diagnosing and treating prostate issues, including enlargement and prostate cancer. He will be the first surgeon within the Greater Fond du Lac region performing Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HOLEP) for significant prostatic obstruction. His surgical areas of expertise also include management of all types of urologic malignancies with a strong emphasis on robotic, laparoscopic, and minimally-invasive approaches. Dr. Hedican also has extensive experience performing robotic reconstruction of both the upper and lower genitourinary system and in the surgical treatment of stone disease.
A graduate of the University of Iowa, Dr. Hedican completed his urology residency at the James Buchanan Brady Urologic Institute John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He is a member of the American Urologic Association, Endourology Society, Robot Urology Society, Wisconsin Urologic Society, and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Association.
Dr. Hedican chose the field of urology due to its breadth.
“All ages and genders of patients are cared for using both medical and surgical therapies,” according to Dr. Hedican. “Our field offers a broad range of surgical approaches, including open, endoscopic, laparoscopic, and robotic. Everything from fine reconstructive to large open cancer surgeries are performed. Urologic cancers – such as prostate, renal, and testis – are among some of the most curable solid organ neoplasms.
Other urologic surgical treatments for benign conditions also greatly improve quality of life whether it is helping them to empty their bladder, eliminating stone pain or improving continence,” Dr. Hedican adds. “Our equipment technology is ever improving including the endoscopes, robotic equipment, optics and lasers.”
Dr. Hedican counsels and treats his patients as he would a loved one. “I pride myself on helping my patients feel comfortable and confidant with me as their provider and surgeon,” he explains. “I end each patient’s appointment by asking them, ‘Do you have any additional questions?’”
As part of his practice, Dr. Hedican is motivated professionally to provide his patients the best possible therapeutic option for their urologic condition regardless of the complexity of their situation.
“A large portion of my former practice at the University of Wisconsin was providing surgical procedures to patients that other urologists were not comfortable performing,” Dr. Hedican says. “In the operating room my preparations and techniques are meticulous to ensure the best possible outcomes.”
Offering the highest level of service is key to Dr. Hedican’s practice. “My greatest sense of satisfaction at the end of the day is the satisfaction of my patients with their care whether it is an office visit, urologic procedure, or an operation,” he shares. “Not only the care delivered by myself, but all members of their urologic care team. Having a great group of co-workers also adds significantly to my end of the day satisfaction as well making it that much more enjoyable to go to work.”
During his free time, Dr. Hedican enjoys traveling, and spending time in the outdoors as much as possible with his family either boating, kayaking, biking, or hunting.
