Ginger Giebel, RN, a clinical operations manager with SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic, has been awarded the first DAISY Leader Award in the SSM Health Wisconsin Region.

The DAISY Nurse Leader Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and the entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to the nurses in a very public way.

The award recognizes leaders who display compassionate leadership by creating an environment of care that truly makes a difference in the lives of staff, patients and their families.

Nominations for The DAISY Nurse Leader Award are typically from their staff who describe the impact leaders have on their ability to provide quality, compassionate care. Highlights of Giebel’s nomination:

• Puts each and every patient first, their care and safety. She is a strong advocate for patients to receive the best care possible in the timeliest manner possible.
• Big proponent of the mission of SSM Health. She is always advocating for us and the patients. She goes out and about in the communities to do outreach.
• Exceptional in all that she does here in her leadership role with SSM Health Family Medicine in Ripon, Fox Lake, and Mayville. Always kind, always available to staff for questions, concerns, or to help us when needed, or with patient care, calls, messages, or concerns.
• Always willing to embrace change in an ever-changing health care world. Positive attitude, communication and always leading by example makes Ginger the top of all managers within SSM Health.
• Our team feels she truly cares about each employee she works with.

Recipients of the award receive a special DAISY Nurse Leader certificate in a DAISY Foundation portfolio, a specially designed DAISY recognition pin, and a unique Healer’s Touch sculpture, designated for Nurse Leaders.
