SSM Health Eye Care welcomes new optometrist

SSM Health Eye Care welcomes Charles Hendrix, OD, optometrist, to the SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic, 421 Camelot Drive in Fond du Lac.

An optometrist conducts eye examinations, prescribes corrective contact lenses and glasses, and diagnoses and treats eye diseases and disorders. Dr. Hendrix specializes in function and disorders of the eye, detection of eye disease, and some types of eye disease management.

He has special interest in pediatric and geriatric optometry, dry eye and ocular surface disease, as well as overall ocular disease management. Dr. Hendrix also cares for patients with diabetes, high blood pressure and many other systematic diseases, and refractive and cataract surgery.

He received his undergraduate training from Carroll University and optometry doctorate from the Illinois College of Optometry.

Dr. Hendrix has always had an interest in human biology and natural sciences.

“While studying biology at Carroll University, I became interested in the mechanics of eye movement, the physics of light and how the brain processes visual information,” he shares. “I enjoy physics, math, and problem solving. I have several family members in the medical field and was inspired by their work, compassion, dedication, and service to others. Optometry is the perfect field that allows me to blend my scientific interests with my desires to solve problems.”

A personalized approach is key to Dr. Hendrix’s approach to patient care.

“I strive to get to know my patients on a personal level, to understand their needs, and to provide relationship-based care that exceeds their expectations,” he explains. “I am proud to have many long-term patients, and I enjoy my interactions with them, and appreciate the trust they put in me to help manage their visual health. I feel an important aspect of the patient care relationship is active listening. I seek to understand their concerns and the issues they face and work to solve their visual concerns in a way that helps to improve their quality of life.”

In his time outside of the optometry practice, Dr. Hendrix enjoys camping, fishing, boating, reading, jogging, working out, spending time outdoors, and time with his family.
