Jaysen Spanbauer became the first Marian University men’s bowling student-athlete to compete at the ISC National Championship and has reached the Final Four.
Spanbauer had a strong showing in the qualifying round finishing second with a total pin fall of 1,385 pins. He finished above 220 in five of his six games in qualifying including a 276 in game two. As the No. 2 seed in the bracket, Spanbauer earned a bye in the opening round and easily took care of business in the second round defeating No. 18 Kai Evans of Savannah College of Art and Design 677-495. He then squared off with No. 7 Zackary Sisk of Trine earning a convincing 734-539 victory.
He now takes on Ryan Barnes of Wichita State, the No. 11 seed, Saturday, April 20 at 7:30 a.m. (CDT), which will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network. The winner then faces off with the winner of No. 24 Carstin Olson of Hastings or No. 13 Braden Mallasach also of Wichita State for the National Championship immediately following, also televised live on the CBS Sports Network.
