Slow start proves costly for Sabre field hockey against DePauw

Marian University field hockey (2-2, 0-0 SAA) opened the weekend with a 3-1 loss to DePauw in non-conference action.

  • The Tigers were able to take control of the game early scoring just 2:34 in.
  • Then just 3:48 into the second quarter, DePauw was able to take a 2-0 lead that held into halftime.
  • DePauw outshot Marian 10-2 in the first 30 minutes and didn’t allow a Sabre shot in the first quarter.
  • Marian was able to bounce back in the second half after the tough first.
  • Sophomore Allyson Nichols was able to get the Sabres on the board with just 3:59 left in the quarter after scoring with an assist from fellow sophomore Jikke Biemans.
  • DePauw responded just 1:48 later to take a 3-1 lead.
  • Marian held DePauw to zero shots in the final stanza, but couldn’t draw any closer leading to the 3-1 final.

  • Marian was outshot 11-9 for the game but outshot DePauw 7-1 in the second half.  Each team had eight shots on goal.
  • DePauw had seven penalty corners to only two for Marian.
  • The Tigers have won both meetings between the two squads.

Sophomore Allyson Nichols scored her third goal of the year for the lone Marian goal.
Sophomore Jikke Biemans assisted the only Sabre goal and has two helpers on the season.
Freshman Emilee Clarey (2-2) made fives in goal for the Sabres.
