Second half surge leads Marian men’s soccer to win

Marian University men’s soccer (3-6-1, 1-5-1 NACC) scored three goals in the second half to defeat Concordia Chicago 3-0.

  • Marian had control most of the opening 45 minutes and hit the crossbar on a pair of occasions.
  • After the scoreless first half, senior Giuliano Corazzina was able to draw a foul in the box at the 53:42 mark.  Fellow senior Logan Holevas then netted his third penalty-kick goal of the year, fourth overall goal of the season.
  • The Sabres continued to put the offensive pressure on the Cougars and in the 71st minute it led to a second Marian goal.
  • Senior Drew Cowden was able to bring the ball into the box and his centering pass found the foot of Pepo Vieira who netted his first Sabre goal.
  • Cowden iced the goal scoring his second goal of the season with just 1:33 left to play to put the final at 3-0.

  • The Sabres edged CUC in shots by a 21-8 margin and had double-digit shots in each half.
  • Marian was also able to create 13 corner-kick opportunities to only one for Concordia Chicago.
  • The win is the first time Marian has defeated Concordia Chicago since 2017.
  • The Sabres have won all three of their games at Smith Field.
