Season-high six goals leads to dominant win for Marian women’s soccer

Marian University women’s soccer (4-3-2, 1-2-0 NACC) scored six goals, including four in the second half to beat Lakeland, 6-0.

  • Junior Emily Gordillo scored first, hitting the inside far post from 18 yards out to take 1-0 lead.
  • At 35:51, sophomore Daniela Chaname scored off a centering pass from freshman Audrina Welsch
  • Gordillo opened the second half with her second goal of the night, hitting the bottom left corner from the top of the box. 
  • Senior Caitlin Traver continued the scoring for the Sabres, sinking two second-half goals, both assisted by junior Sophia Romo
  • Sophomore Sofia Vizcarra capped off the night with a score from the box in the 80th minute.

  • Marian had an outstanding 40-1 advantage in shots, including 24-1 in shots on goal.
  • The Sabres only needed one save from junior Cristal Muniz (1-0-0), trailing Lakeland 18-1 in saves.
  • Marian also held a 7-1 lead in corner kicks, with six coming in the first half.
  • The six goals was the most scored by Marian since Apr. 16, 2021, a 6-0 win at Alverno. 
  • The win gives the Sabres a 27-13 advantage in the all-time series against the Muskies, as the Sabres extend the series winning streak to 17 games, dating back to 2009.

Senior Caitlin Traver achieved the first two-goal performance of her Sabre career, both coming in the second half. 
Junior Emily Gordillo scored twice in the first half and now sits as the team leader in goals (4) and points (9) this season. 
Junior Sophia Romo assisted twice, both on goals to Traver.
