Sabre women’s volleyball suffers sweep in NACC opener

Marian University women’s volleyball (1-12, 0-1 NACC) was defeated by St. Norbert in its first match of NACC play 25-23, 25-17, 25-15.

  • The Sabres had a strong start and led for most of the first set.
  • Opening with a 7-3 lead, Marian brought its advantage out to 23-22.
  • St. Norbert rallied, however, scoring the next three points to take the opening set.
  • SNC came out to a strong 12-5 lead to open the second set before Marian trimmed the deficit down to 13-10.
  • The Green Knights responded putting the set away with five straight points.
  • The final set saw Marian hold a slim 6-5 lead before a 9-1 SNC spurt put the Green Knights ahead 14-7.
  • The Sabres were able to cut their deficit down to three, but the Green Knights held off the rally and ended the match on a 5-1 run.

  • SNC held a 35-31 advantage in kills for the match, while the Sabre back row had a 52-48 edge in digs.
  • The Green Knights finished with 10 blocks and finished with an advantage of 7-2 in service aces.
  • Marian was limited to a .075 hitting percentage despite having 16 kills in the first set.
  • The Sabres are now 4-23 all-time against SNC having lost the last 16 meetings.

Senior Mikalah Mueller nearly had a double-double posting nine kills with 10 digs.
Senior Alana McDermott had a match-high 12 digs in the back row.
Freshman Lily Breed also almost had a double-double with 17 assists to go with eight digs.
