Sabre women’s volleyball finishes with split at Raider Invite

Marian University women’s volleyball (4-4, 0-0 NACC) closed out the Raider Invite with a sweep against Dominican and a five-set defeat against Loras.

VS. DOMINICAN (W, 3-0, 25-13, 25-15, 25-16)

  • Marian opened the second day with a resounding victory over NACC foe Dominican.
  • The Sabres opened the match with an 8-4 advantage and pulled ahead with five straight points.
  • Dominican opened the second set with a slim 3-2 before the Sabres scored seven straight.
  • Marian was able to finish the set with four straight points.
  • The third set was a little tighter as the Stars only trailed 19-16.
  • The Sabres closed out the match quickly, however, scoring six straight points.

VS. LORAS (L, 3-2, 25-18, 17-25, 25-12, 11-25, 17-15)

  • After already leading 9-7, Loras was able to pull away with a run of 6-1.
  • Marian was able to trim its deficit down to four at 20-16 but the Duhawks scored the next four points to seal the win.
  • Marian jumped ahead 8-2 to start the second set and led for the remainder of the set.
  • The Sabres had an 8-1 run later in the set to help even the sets at 1-1.
  • The third set was all Duhawks as Loras jumped out in front 19-5 to easily take a 2-1 lead in the sets.
  • The roles reversed in the force as Marian dominated leading by as many as 14 points to force a fifth set.
  • The Duhawks used an 8-2 run to build the first sizeable lead of the fifth at 11-6.
  • Marian responded scoring seven of the next eight points to lead 13-12.
  • Loras managed to retake the lead only for the Sabres to turn the Duahwks away on a pair of match-point chances.
  • The third time proved to be the charm, however, as the Duhawks sealed the win at 17-15.

VS. DOMINICAN

  • Marian had a 43-14 edge in kills and 47-29 advantage for digs.
  • Marian hit .311 in the match marking the first time since 2023 Marian has had multiple matches with a .300 attack percentage.
  • The Sabres also had a 9-3 advantage for service aces.
  • This is the first time Marian has had multiple matches with a .300 or better hitting percentage since 2023.
  • It was the third sweep of the season for Marian.
  • Marian is now 9-18 all-time against Domincian with wins in two of the last three matches.

VS. LORAS

  • Loras finished with a 54-44 edge in kills and a 73-66 advantage in digs.
  • The Sabres held an advantage in service aces once again at 11-9.
  • Marian is 1-2 in five-set matches this season.
  • Marian is 2-8 all-time against Loras with this being the first meeting since 2021.
