Sabre women’s volleyball falls at LFC in straight sets

Marian University women’s volleyball (10-8, 2-3 NACC) was defeated by Lake Forest in straight sets with scores of 25-22 and 25-19 twice.

  • The Foresters defended its home court to open the match taking an 8-3 lead to open the match.
  • Marian was able to chip away at the deficit and eventually took a 15-14 lead.
  • The two traded the lead before a quick 3-1 spurt saw LFC take a 22-19 lead.
  • Marian trailed by only one twice down the stretch but back-to-back Forester kills settled the opening set.
  • The second set was all about runs and eventually led to an LFC 15-13 advantage.
  • The Foresters then scored four straight only to have Marian score five unanswered to put the score at 19-18 LFC.
  • Lake Forest was able to end the straight strong, however, outscoring Marian 6-1.
  • The third opened back-and-forth leading to a 16-16 score.
  • LFC took the first sizable lead of the match with a 6-2 run, and closed out the match with a 5-1 run.

  • Lake Forest held a 35-30 advantage and kills and 44-43 edge in digs.
  • Marian hit .091 for the match with 20 errors, six coming from LFC blocks.
  • The victory gives the Foresters 12 wins in the past 13 match-ups with Marian.
  • Marian will now play eight straight NACC matches.

Senior Kaitlyn Merrill had six kills with two aces to lead the offense.
