Sabre women’s volleyball drops home finale to CUW

Marian University women’s volleyball (4-22, 3-9 NACC) was defeated by Concordia Wisconsin 25-17, 25-20, 25-17 in its final home match of the season.

  • Marian led for most of the first in large part to senior Mikalah Mueller recording three aces to open the match.
  • The Sabres led 15-13 before the Falcons went on a 12-2 run to rally and take the set.
  • CUW had an early 8-5 lead and it proved to be the difference as they didn’t relinquish the advantage.
  • Marian stayed in the set only trailing by two points most of the set, even as late as 21-19.
  • Another strong finish from the Falcons saw CUW use a 4-1 run to lead 2-0.
  • Concordia Wisconsin jumped out to a 6-2 lead but Marian stayed alive only trailing 12-8.
  • The Falcons then scored the next seven points to pull away.
  • Marian managed to cut their deficit down to as small as five but were unable to rally any further.

  • CUW finished with a 34-28 advantage in kills, while Marian had the edge in the back row at 45-40 in digs.
  • The two squads combined for 18 service aces with Marian recording seven.
  • The Falcons had at least 10 kills in all three sets and hit .224 in the match.
  • Marian is now 30-33 all-time against CUW with the Falcons taking the last 14 meetings.

Senior Anja Ungerer led Marian with even kills and a .417 attack percentage.
Junior Raegan Montello had a match-high 12 digs.
Freshman Lily Breed had 10 assists, seven digs, and two kills.
