Sabre Women’s Soccer Stuck with Stalemate at Aurora

Marian University women’s soccer (4-5-2, 1-1-2 NACC) settled for a draw at Aurora with a 2-2 final.

  • Aurora controlled the opening half of play but Marian was able to keep the game scoreless after 45 minutes.
  • Senior Baylee Alvarado was able to open the scoring 7:54 into the second half with an assist from sophomore Ysabella Sanchez.
  • Just 1:03 later, the Sabres built its lead to 2-0 with a goal from sophomore Emily Gordillo and an assist from Alvarado.
  • The Spartans trimmed the deficit in half scoring with just 10:17 to play.
  • Then with just 3:43 left, Aurora found an equalizer with a penalty-kick goal.
  • Marian had a pair of opportunities in the final minutes but were unable to break the dead lock.

  • Marian outshot Aurora 14-12 for the game and 8-7 in shots on goal.
  • The Spartans had six corner kicks to just one for the Sabres.
  • Aurora had eight fouls and Marian had half that with four.
  • Marian is now 5-17-1 all-time against Aurora with a six-game unbeaten streak against the Spartans.
