Sabre women’s lacrosse narrowly misses upset of CUW

Marian University women’s lacrosse (3-11, 2-5 NACC) saw another first-half lead slip past them in a 14-9 loss to CUW.

  • Marian held a 4-2 lead after the first quarter after the duo fo freshmen Elizabeth Van Ryzin and Talia Bellotti each scored a pair of goals.
  • The Sabres were able to add to their lead and held a 7-4 lead going into halftime.
  • Belotti and Van Ryzin each scored for Marian in the second quarter along with sophomore Chloe Yanez.
  • The Falcon rally began in the third quarter with CUW knotting the score at 8-8 going into the final 15 minutes.
  • Van Ryzin was the lone goal scorer for Marian in the third quarter.
  • The Falcons capped off a stretch of five unanswered goals to take an 11-8 lead in the fourth quarter with 11 minutes to play.
  • Bellotti, with help from fellow freshman Shaelyn Klassen, helped keep Marian in the game at 11-9.
  • CUW was able to close out the game with three unanswered goals, however.

  • Neither team had a strong day on clears with CUW going 11-for-20 and Marian 12-of-23.

Sophomore Emma Johnson (2-10) tied a season high with her 15 saves.
Freshman Elizabeth Van Ryzin scored four goals and caused a team-high three turnovers.
