Sabre women’s lacrosse falls to Aurora in NACC Tournament Semifinals

 Marian University women’s lacrosse (6-11, 3-3 NACC) was eliminated from the NACC Tournament in the semifinals after falling to Aurora 21-4.

  • Aurora would score the first pair of goals before junior Izzy Newton found the back of the net with an assist from fellow junior Emma Heide.
  • The Spartans were then able to score three unanswered goals to lead 5-1.
  • Senior Kali Moreno would net the second Marian goal with 8:08 to play in the quarter with an assist to senior Nicole Stachon.
  • Aurora then scored the final goal of the first quarter and the first four goals of the second to lead 10-2.
  • A second Moreno goal put Marian down 10-3 but the Spartans took over scoring four unanswered to finish the first half with a 14-3 lead.
  • The Spartans extended their lead out to 19-3 after shutting the Sabres out in the third quarter.
  • Heide would score the final Marian goal in the fourth quarter with an assist from senior Kayla Kolpitcke.

  • Aurora finished with a 24-15 advantage in shots.
  • The Spartans held a small 39-34 edge in ground balls and 15-12 advantage in draw controls.
  • This is the second straight season Marian has been eliminated in the NACC Tournament Semifinals.
