Sabre women’s hockey suffers shutout against UWSP

Marian University women’s ice hockey (3-6 -0, 2-4-0-0 NCHA) opened a stretch of non-conference games falling to UW-Stevens Point 3-0.

  • Marian had the first power-play chance of the game but it was UWSP who lit the lamp six seconds after the penalty expired to lead 1-0 at the 10:07 mark.
  • UWSP was able to add to its lead with 4:55 left in the period with the 2-0 score holding into the first intermission.
  • After a lengthy break, the two squads played evenly in the second stanza.
  • The Pointers extended their lead to 3-0 with 5:03 left in the period, however.
  • The final stanza saw sophomore Catherine Yasenak hit the pipe to nearly end the shutout, but the Sabres were unable to cut into the 3-0 deficit.

  • UWSP had a slim 34-32 advantage for shots in the game.
  • Marian managed double-digit shots in two of the three periods.
  • The Pointers had a 50-27 edge for face-offs.
  • Neither side had a power-play goal with the Pointers having six chances to three for Marian.
  • The Sabres are now 1-26-0 all-time against UWSP.

Freshman Sydney Magnuson (3-6-0) made 31 saves including all 12 shots she saw in the third period.
Sophomore Ella Spies had a game-high nine shots on goal.
