Sabre women’s hockey hangs tough with UW-Stevens Point

Marian University women’s hockey (6-11-1, 3-6-1-0 NCHA) was tied 4-4 after two periods but allowed three goals in the final period to fall 7-4 at UW-Stevens Point.

  • Marian opened the scoring for a game that proved to have plenty of offense, a far cry from the past weekend for the Sabres.
  • Senior Alyssa Heim scored at the 10:49 mark of the opening period with a power play score to give Marian an early lead.
  • The Pointers responded with two goals separated by just 54 seconds to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
  • Senior Mackenzie Rosin tied the game just 47 seconds into the second period with a power play goal of her own.
  • Marian retook the lead at the 4:08 mark when freshman Catherine Yasenak scored her first collegiate goal.
  • This lead didn’t last long as UWSP quickly tied the game just 34 seconds later.
  • The Pointers then took a 4-3 lead only to have Heim tie the game at 4-4 with 5:52 left to play in the period.
  • The 4-4 tally would hold heading into the final period.
  • UWSP would score 1:31 into the final period and added a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes to secure the non-conference win.
