Sabre women’s hockey finishes five-point weekend against Trine

Marian University women’s hockey (4-6-1, 3-4-1-0 NCHA) defeated Trine 2-1 in overtime to finish a five-point weekend against the Thunder.

  • After being shutout the previous night, Trine opened the scoring 8:11 in for its first lead of the series.
  • Junior Jadyn Gorski lit the lamp 4:15 later to tie the game at 1-1; assists to senior Alyssa Heim and sophomore Logan Crawford.
  • This would be all the offense either team could manage for the remainder of regulation.
  • With 3:20 left in overtime, junior Sydney Schipper would net her first goal of the season to earn Marian an extra point.  Crawford assisted the game-winner for her second multi-point game of the season.

  • Marian was outshot 35-32 for the game with Marian recording 17 shots in the second period.  The Sabres also had the only two shots in overtime between the two squads.
  • The Sabres held a 43-28 edge in the face-off circle.
  • Neither team had a power-play goal where Trine had five chances and Marian had four.
  • One of the Sabre penalty kills came in overtime.
  • Marian finishes the first half of NCHA play in fifth with 11 points.

Senior Kayla Kolpicke (2-2-1) finished with 34 shots, her lowest total for a single game this season.
Sophomore Logan Crawford posted her second multi-point game of the season with two assists.
Junior Sydney Schipper netted the game-winning goal and was 9-of-13 (.692) on face-offs.
