Sabre women’s hockey falls in overtime to open Trine series

Marian University women’s ice hockey (6-13-3, 4-8-3 NCHA) went to overtime in its opener with Trine but was defeated 2-1.

  • Marian came out firing but was unable to find the back of the net despite outshooting Trine 14-6.
  • It took until 4:26 remained in the second period before Trine scored the opening goal of the game.
  • The Sabres were able to tie the game with just 35.9 seconds remaining in the stanza when junior Caitlin Traver lit the lamp with an assist from senior Sydney Schipper.
  • The two squads would go scoreless the rest of the way despite an offense filled third period.
  • Marian controlled the opening minute of overtime but Trine managed to score 12 seconds into a power play to take the extra point.

  • Marian finished with a 37-29 edge and had double-digit shots in two of the three periods.
  • Marian didn’t have a chance on the power play and the penalty kill allowed on goal on three chances.
  • The Sabres finished with a slim 27-26 edge in face-offs.
  • Marian is now 1-3-3 in games that go to overtime this season.
  • Trine now holds a 9-4-2 edge in the all-time series with this being the third overtime game in the series.
