Sabre women’s hockey falls after late push from Aurora

Marian University women’s hockey (6-12-1, 3-7-1-0 NCHA) was tied with Aurora after two periods but fell by a 4-1 final.

  • An even opening period saw neither team find the back of the net.
  • The Sabres were able to strike first when freshman Catherine Yasenak scored at the 8:32 mark of the second with assists from senior Alyssa Heim and sophomore Logan Crawford.
  • The Spartans were able to tie the game with 1:45 left in the period scoring a power-play goal.
  • The third period was then controlled by the Spartans with Aurora scoring three times, once on the power play, to earn the NCHA win.

  • Marian was outshot 54-19 after the opening period saw each team record 10 shots.
  • The Sabre power play was scoreless on four chances, while Aurora went 2-for-6 (.333) on the power play.  Marian did have a clean penalty kill on a 5-on-3 opportunity for the Spartans.
  • Face offs were nearly even with Aurora earning 35 wins and Marian 33.
  • Aurora has now won the last seven meetings against Marian.

Freshman Catherine Yasenak scored her second goal of the season.
Sophomore Logan Crawford earned her team-leading seventh assist.
