Sabre women’s hockey drops defensive opener to LFC

Marian University women’s hockey (6-9-1, 3-5-1-0 NCHA) dropped its opener to Lake Forest by a 2-0 final.

  • Lake Forest was able to control the pace to open the game.
  • The Foresters needed just 11 seconds to score on the first power play opportunity for either squad to open the scoring at the 12:23 mark of the opening period.
  • This special-teams goal proved to be the lone score until LFC added an empty-net goal in the final minute to put the final at 2-0.

  • The Foresters held a 31-20 edge where Marian outshot LFC 9-7 in the second period.  
  • Lake Forest went 1-for-5 (.200) on the power play with Marian going scoreless on three chances.
  • Face offs also went in favor of LFC by a 33-24 margin.
  • Marian has been shutout four times this season.
