Sabre women’s hockey drops defensive battle to CUW

Marian University women’s hockey (7-13-1, 4-8-1-0 NCHA) clinched a spot in the NCHA Slaats Cup despite a 3-1 loss at CUW.

  • The opening period looked similar to the opener of the series with neither team finding the back of the net.
  • The Falcons would open the scoring 3:39 into the second period before junior Dayna Jones netted her first goal of the season at the 10:59 mark to tie the game.
  • Seniors Michaela Powers and Hannah Cunha each earned an assist on the goal.
  • The defensive battle continued deep into the third period where CUW would net the go ahead goal with 4:39 to play.
  • An empty net goal with 1:05 left would seal the 3-1 victory for the Falcons.

Senior Hannah Cunha recorded her fifth assist of the season.
